Grilled Gluten-Free Naan Pizzas: The Ultimate Summer Meal
Who doesn't love a pizza night? There's something extra special about cooking up a pizza on the grill, especially when you’re using gluten-free naan to create a quick, crispy, and flavorful base. I have been waiting for WAY too long to share this post with you guys! I didn’t invent these or anything but when I found this gluten-free naan bread I started making grilled pizzas with them and it has been a game changer for our weekly meal plan, especially in the summer! They are completely customizable to what you like on your own pizza and the whole process takes less than 20 minutes. They are also very easy to make when you have a bigger group of people because you can set out all of the toppings and then they can build their own pizzas and stick them on the grill. Our grill can make four at a time, you could possibly even five if you aren't having to keep things separate for allergies! Whether you're gluten intolerant or just looking for a fun twist on traditional pizza, this grilled gluten-free naan pizza recipe will surely become a favorite in your household.
Ingredients
To make your grilled gluten-free naan pizzas, you'll need a handful of simple ingredients. Here’s what you’ll need:
Gluten-Free Naan: You can find pre-made gluten-free naan in most grocery stores, which is what we like to do and it makes it that much easier! I also found a recipe that I will link here if you if you prefer to make your own. The recipe comes from Gluten Free on a Shoestring and I have tried some of Nicole’s recipes in the past that I really liked! The naan will serve as the perfect, soft base for your pizza.
Olive Oil: A light drizzle of olive oil gives the naan a beautiful golden crust when grilled.
Pizza Sauce: Classic tomato pizza sauce, or if you’re feeling adventurous, pesto or white sauce can be great alternatives.
Shredded Cheese: Mozzarella is the go-to for most pizzas, but feel free to swap in other cheeses like goat cheese or dairy-free cheese if you have dietary preferences. We also like to use parmesan for a bit of saltiness depending on the type of pizza we are going for!
Your Favorite Toppings: Think pepperoni, fresh basil, mushrooms, olives, bell peppers—whatever you love on your pizza! I have a whole list of additional pizza topping ideas a little bit further down the blog post!
Instructions
Making these gluten-free naan pizzas on the grill is quick and easy, making them the perfect weeknight dinner or fun weekend treat. Follow these steps for a perfectly grilled pizza:
Preheat the Grill: Start by preheating your grill to medium-high heat. You’ll want it nice and hot to get that crispy crust.
Prepare the Naan: Lightly brush both sides of the gluten-free naan with olive oil. This helps achieve that crispy texture and prevents the naan from sticking to the grill.
Grill the Naan: Place the naan on the grill and cook for 1-2 minutes on each side, just until grill marks form and it starts to crisp up. Keep an eye on it—naan can burn pretty quickly!
Add the Toppings: Once the naan is grilled to your liking, flip it over and spread a thin layer of pizza sauce on top. Sprinkle your cheese generously over the sauce, and then pile on your favorite toppings.
Finish Cooking: Close the grill lid and cook for another 3-5 minutes, or until the cheese has melted and your toppings are perfectly cooked. The grill’s heat will give the crust a delicious crunch while keeping the cheese gooey and melted.
Serve & Enjoy: Remove your naan pizza from the grill and slice it up. Serve hot and enjoy the crispy, cheesy goodness!
Optional Topping Choices
The best part about naan pizzas is the endless topping possibilities!
